Schrader LPV Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Building upon a remarkable debut, the 2012 Schrader LPV from the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard benefited from ideal growing conditions throughout Napa Valley. Using a complement of clone 4 and clone 337, the Schrader LPV is provocative, exceptionally rich, and deeply compelling. The wine offers a luxurious mouth feel and distinctive fruit core that displays aromas of blueberry and blackcurrant mixed with an underlying essence of crushed rock minerality, a testament to this wine’s terrific range. Truly delicious, the Schrader LPV fulfills on the promise and the multi-dimensional flavor profile of the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard.
In the words of Henry Hartman, “success always comes when preparation meets opportunity.” With more than a decade of experience in the vineyard we definitely had the preparation part down, however we were happily surprised by the unlimited opportunity given to us by Mother Nature in 2012. The growing conditions were beyond fabulous, provding the double benefit of phenomenal quality as well as grand abundance, a winemaker’s dream. Serendipitous and trouble-free, the pristine conditions of the season delivered a harvest with both marvelous quality and ample quantity, an ideal combination.
The Las Piedras Vineyard, a name that translates to “the stones” in Spanish, is an exceptional rolling estate in North East St. Helena district that carries a rich viticultural history dating back to its founding by Edward Bale in the 1840s. An exceptional terroir makes this vineyard unique, where the vines contour to the gentle slope and live in rocky soil that creates a perfectly stressed environment ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is fruit that is remarkably dense and wonderfully concentrated, abundant with a provocative and elegant minerality, and bursting with deep, lush black and blue fruit flavors complemented by magnificent structure.
Rated 94 The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard LPV is black/ruby, shows lots of charcoal, scorched earth and an almost Graves-on-steroids personality. Deep blueberry and blackberry fruit, a hint of coffee and chocolate are all present in this impressive, very different style of Cabernet Sauvignon from Schrader. This is Clone 337, planted in a St. Helena vineyard.

Rated 95 Starts out bold and assertive, with rich dark berry, cedar and nutmeg flavors, revealing touches of espresso, mocha and melted black licorice. Well-built, tight and persistent, this will benefit from short-term cellaring.
