Schrader Colesworthy Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Our Schrader Colesworthy, named in honor of Carol Colesworthy Schrader, represents the highest expression of the remarkable Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard. Like our Schrader Old Sparky program, each vintage the wine is crafted from a handful of outstanding barrel lots from this acclaimed estate. Presented in magnum format, this luxurious wine offers prodigious aromatics with copious amounts of ripe blackberries layered with notes of vanilla, pencil shavings, crush stones and forest floor. This magnificent, pure Cabernet Sauvignon shows stunning intensity and brilliance with polished texture and perfect balance on the palate.
The 2015 vintage was radiant with abundant sunshine and consistent weather that yielded an excellent, albeit small, crop of optimally ripe grapes from all of our vineyard sources. Now resting in barrel, the young wines are showing their brilliance with boundless fruit character that harkens back to the acclaimed 2012 vintage. While it is the fruit profile that reflects these wines, it is the underlying firm structure of the 2015 Cabernets that distinguishes them from their siblings. As Thomas remarked, “fruit sweetness will allow these wines to drink really well while young, yet it’s their looming structure that will allow for long aging.”
Rated 97 Coming from the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard, block C that is planted to clone 337, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Colesworthy has a very deep purple-black color and incredibly primary nose of blackcurrant cordial, blueberry pie and preserved plums with wafts of licorice, charcoal, mulberries and baking spices plus a hint of red roses. Medium to full-bodied, very firm and very finely crafted, the palate features wonderfully ripe tannins and great freshness, harnessing the bold, primary flavors and restraining the very long, very youthful finish.
