The Origin of
Double Diamond

In 2001, Fred Schrader created Double Diamond as part of his quest to bring forward the finest Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa Valley has to offer.

With Double Diamond, he set himself a new goal -- to create a Napa Valley wine in the Schrader tradition of excellence and to make it available to a broader audience of wine lovers. This character-driven expression of America’s premier wine region carries on the tradition of earning critical acclaim and attracting passionate fans that Fred began in 1998 with Schrader Cellars.

Throughout the years, Double Diamond, crafted by winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, has been sourced from a complement of prime vineyard estates in and around Napa Valley. From rocky, high-elevation soils to the warm, rich valley floor, each incredible vineyard contributes its unique character to this enticing and eminently satisfying Napa Cabernet.

A Bold Vision for Quality

Carol Schrader created her first label for Schrader Cellars in 2003. Her unwavering commitment to quality was an ideal match for Fred and Thomas, and soon she became an integral part of the brand. Additionally, her designs have graced Double Diamond bottles since the beginning, evolving over the years. Her striking design for the 2016 Double Diamond Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon combines the heritage of the essential wine mark with a dynamic, modern aesthetic and a bold vision for the future.

The 2016 vintage of Double Diamond opens with layered, intriguing aromas of black currants, dark cherries, blackberry, cherry compote, toast, and oak spice with notes of herbs, pine cone, and dried earth. In the mouth, the palate is rich and juicy, bursting with big, rich flavor. The tannin structure makes this a great wine to enjoy upon release, but it will also mellow nicely for the next two to six years.
