2013 Colesworthy

Our 2013 Beckstoffer Las Piedras Colesworthy 1.5L will be shipped in a Schrader Cellars wooden box.

Tasting after tasting, we were particularly drawn to a handful of outstanding barrel lots that were made from a prime block of the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard and agreed they possessed extraordinary quality and luster. Akin to our Schrader Old Sparky program, our Schrader Colesworthy represents the highest expression from this remarkable estate. Deeply colored and wildly aromatic, the lavish ultra-ripe berry essences and rich cadre of pure Cabernet fruit flavor crescendo in the glass to deliver a delectably decadent sensory experience.

  • Accolades

98+ Pts. “Close to perfection is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Colesworthy, which is clone 337. This is aged in 100% new Darnajou and soaks up the new oak beautifully. Notes of lead pencil shavings, forest floor, vanilla, blackberry and cassis jump from the glass of this opaque purple, full-bodied, magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon, which is super-rich, fabulously pure and just a killer wine on the palate.”
    — Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

98 Pts. “The magnum-only wine shows the best of Las Piedras. So much iodine, blackberry, black currant, licorice, stone and lavender character. Seamless and ultra-fine. A wine with a great future. Better in 2022 but fascinating to tasting.”
    — James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

  • Vineyard

The Las Piedras Vineyard, a name that translates to “the stones” in Spanish, is an exceptional rolling estate in North East St. Helena district that carries a rich viticultural history dating back to its founding by Edward Bale in the 1840s. An exceptional terroir makes this vineyard unique, where the vines contour to the gentle slope and live in rocky soil that creates a perfectly stressed environment ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is fruit that is remarkably dense and wonderfully concentrated, abundant with a provocative and elegant minerality, and bursting with deep, lush black and blue fruit flavors complemented by magnificent structure.

  • Vintage

In 2013 the grapes enjoyed month upon glorious month of effortless sunny days followed by clear, cool nights. Warm spring temperatures gave way to an early budbreak and the consistent, dry weather afforded an optimal fruit set. The favorable conditions seamlessly continued through the summer and we faced none of the rogue heat spikes or rain threats that might otherwise challenge a strong vintage. Once in barrel, the wine continued to develop and gain profound flavors that led to winemaker Thomas Brown stating “These are the finest wines I have ever made.”
