Profile

Massive and multi-dimensional, this pure clone 4 Cabernet masterfully balances its tremendous intensity with elegance and subtlety. This lavishly concentrated wine reveals gorgeous layers of blue and black fruit, creme de cassis, blueberry pie, licorice and delicious creamy oak. Handcrafted in the most natural methods possible, the wine offers spectacular integration of acidity and tannins. The immense richness and seamless texture, combined with the wine's extended finish, create an incomparable experience.

Vintage

The 2011 vintage was the most challenging harvest we have ever experienced in Napa Valley. In short, the vintage separated producers based on their attention to detail in the vineyard and experience, where timely decision-making became integral to the outcome of the harvest. Extreme reductions in the vineyard were followed by single berry sorting at the winery. In the end, we harvested a very small yet remarkably high quality crop. We are thrilled, though not at all surprised, that winemaker Thomas Brown brilliantly navigated Mother Nature’s gauntlet to produce an exquisite portfolio of wines.

Vineyard

Originally planted by pioneer Hamilton Crabb in 1868, To Kalon – meaning highest beauty in Greek – is a noble “first growth” estate in Oakville that has established itself as the preeminent source of Napa Valley’s finest grapes. The vineyard is defined by its high mineral content and exceptional drainage and offers optimal north-south sun exposure by day with cool coastal breezes at night which we feel is the ideal environment for growing our Cabernet Sauvignon.
